Some time over the past few days, there was a change in the policy at Factual<\/a>\u00a0so that business owners are no longer able to correct their own business details, and instead must work ONLY through a “Trusted Data Contributor”.<\/del><\/p>\n

Factual is one of the\u00a0four main feeders into the\u00a0\u00a0local search ecosystem<\/a>\u00a0and it’s one of the first four places we go…\u00a0\u00a0I’m not sure when the change took place, but as recently as two weeks ago it could still be done via email, so it had to be recent…<\/del><\/p>\n

This is what it\u00a0said on this page<\/a>\u00a0until recently…<\/del><\/p>\n

UPDATE YOUR BUSINESS\u2019S DETAILS<\/del><\/h5>\n

If you have already found your business in our\u00a0Global Places data<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and have updates, email\u00a0datacontributions@factual.com<\/a>\u00a0with all of the details (for the fields listed above) that you wish to correct,\u00a0along with the Factual Id of your business<\/strong>. Inclusion of your business\u2019s Factual Id will expedite your request.<\/del><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Contributing & Fixing Data<\/del><\/h2>\n

There are two ways to make explicit contributions or edits to Factual\u2019s data:<\/del><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Via the\u00a0Factual Write\u00a0API<\/span><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(for developers): using developer tools to make programmatic contributions, usually at a very large scale<\/del><\/li>\n
  2. Via our\u00a0Trusted Data Contributors<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(for brands, business owners, and everyone else): working with online business listing management services to manage a moderate number of specific listings or brands<\/del><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Following that link to the Trusted Data Contributors shows 13 different\u00a0providers, one of which is Moz<\/a>\u00a0who we’ve been using lately, but Factual doesn’t seem to be playing nicely over there.\u00a0<\/span><\/del><\/p>\n

    What’s taking so long, Factual?<\/del><\/h5>\n

    If you actually TRUST your “Trusted data providers”, \u00a0then why not update for them in a timely fashion<\/em>?<\/del><\/p>\n

    For one client, for example, we used Moz and have been waiting over three months now, even Moz shows expected \u00a0June 6th<\/span><\/strong>, but you two months later its still not current.<\/del><\/p>\n

    This isn’t the trusted data providers fault, \u00a0Factual, it’s yours, and for a client to see this would be embarrassing, and looks as if we’ve not done our job!<\/del><\/p>\n

    We were actually doing better with Factual when we were on our own , and fixing incorrect data with Factual by email was an easy process. \u00a0 I miss that, and even mentioned it in a recent local search presentation<\/a>\u00a0that \u00a0I gave in Tigard…. Why did you take that away, Factual?<\/del><\/p>\n

    I’ve updated\u00a0my\u00a0citation priority list<\/a>\u00a0to reflect the change in Factuals policy, but does anyone know when this factual policy changed, or found a “trusted provider” that Factual actually trusts?<\/del><\/p>\n
