{"id":2704,"date":"2012-05-16T11:09:11","date_gmt":"2012-05-16T18:09:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/?p=2704"},"modified":"2014-12-04T13:15:45","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T20:15:45","slug":"visibility-cut-in-half-by-obeying-google-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/google\/visibility-cut-in-half-by-obeying-google-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Visibility Cut in Half Locally by Obeying Googles Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is just quick update to show that my Google Places impressions over the past 30 days are less than half of what they were the previous month.<\/p>\n<p>This was the result of following the new <a href=\"http:\/\/support.google.com\/places\/bin\/answer.py?hl=en&amp;ht=en&amp;answer=107528\" target=\"_blank\">Google guidelines<\/a> that require local service businesses <strong>without a storefront<\/strong> to check a box that says <em>&#8220;This business serves businesses at their location&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/google\/service-biz-bad-seo-advice\/\" target=\"_blank\">wrote last month<\/a>, Google changed the rules, so I complied and &#8220;checked the box&#8221;, and this is the result &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Inpression count before checking the box in Google Places that says, &quot;This business serves customers at their location&quot;.\" alt=\"Inpression count before checking the box in Google Places that says, &quot;This business serves customers at their location&quot;.\" src=\"http:\/\/imgpics.s3.amazonaws.com\/62c65a06d89d4a5e9a07b8f701265e9f.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"126\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>I checked the box on April 16th, 2012<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/imgpics.s3.amazonaws.com\/2b4204a24e5e4cf0afc09d36b203ca39.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"124\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I suppose skeptics or the Google apologists will say that by itself, in an isolated environment, this doesn&#8217;t prove anything.<\/p>\n<p>Some might even point out that it&#8217;s a hell of a lot better than &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-location-bug-maps-14807.html\" target=\"_blank\">we do not currently support the location<\/a>&#8221; but it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/seo\/local-policy-stupid\/\" target=\"_blank\">still pretty stupid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is just quick update to show that my Google Places impressions over the past 30 days are less than half of what they were the previous month.
