{"id":1578,"date":"2009-12-28T07:33:34","date_gmt":"2009-12-28T14:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/?p=1578"},"modified":"2014-12-04T13:16:38","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T20:16:38","slug":"twitter-marketing-done-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/social-networking\/twitter-marketing-done-right\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter Marketing Done Right"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I&#8217;ve frequently been asked if I can point to a good example of Twitter marketing, and it&#8217;s rare, but I saw one first hand this weekend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sunday afternoon, I happened to notice that <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/garyvee\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Vaynerchuck twittered<\/a> that he would offer free shipping for the entire year of 2010, if the New York Jets were to beat the Indianapolis Colts!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1579\" title=\"twitter-garyv1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv1.jpg 485w, https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv1-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fat chance of that happening, I figured, but I still thought it was a cool gamble, so I retweeted what Gary said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1580\" title=\"twitter-garyv2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"390\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv2.jpg 488w, https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv2-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Then, in the second half of the football game, <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/nfl\/recap?gameId=291227011\" target=\"_blank\">the Colts laid down for the Jets<\/a> by removing their starters,\u00a0 and the Jets did actually beat the Colts by a score of 29 to 15.\u00a0 Was this some sort of payoff by a competitor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gourmetlibrary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gourmet Library<\/a>? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I sort of forgot about it, until just now as I was looking at the Twitter stream, and I happened to see this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1581\" title=\"twitter-garyv3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv3.jpg 509w, https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv3-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So following the link in that Tweet,\u00a0 I came to this &#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1582\" title=\"twitter-garyv4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv4.jpg 485w, https:\/\/www.pdxtc.com\/wpblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/twitter-garyv4-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, I just got done sending an email off,\u00a0 requesting my free shipping code for the entire year, and i&#8217;m going to go browse the catalog&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It will\u00a0 be interesting to hear how many free shipping codes get given away, as well as to know (a year from now) how much in free shipping was given away, how many dollars, and how many new customers were brought in by <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/garyvee\/status\/7098512081\" target=\"_blank\">this single Tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve frequently been asked if I can point to a good example of Twitter marketing, and it&#8217;s rare, but I saw one first hand this weekend.
