Yes Google base has been around for awhile know, But what has it become. I have summited my websites but if you do a search for a keyword about your website you get hundreds of the same listing over and over again google base is not being monitered, for spam posts.
I Know google crawls google base. So there really only good as a backlink a doubt being listed will get you a better ranking in googles main search

I did manage to get 1 of my sites on the second page for keywords - Free doman Names.
Google Base is a PR8 so putting your website in there directory is a very good backlink.
Only draw back is you must either be a member for Google.com adsense or adword. Or you will have to sign up before you can list your site. Your site will be listed for only 15 days if you list in there categories, If you create your own your listing never expires.
