I don’t think you are right at all . You can’t blame someone that is trying to make a living , and to do that he is in need of traffic / people / customers . and that means SEO . I don’t think that posting and backlinking should make you feel bad at all , it’s a competition , this is the law of nature .

It is a costly practice also to buy backlinks and forum post. If the effort is put towards good webmaster work there would be honest results from the effort.
