OCCA Monthly Meeting (free and open to the public)
Title: When to Choose Which AMD Processor
Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2006
Time: 7:00-8:30PM (No-host dinner at 6:00PM)
Speaker: An AMD Field Application Engineer
Place: Rheinlander German Restaurant
5035 NE Sandy Blvd
Portland OR 97213-1941

AMD coordinating with Equus Computers will send a Field Application Engineer to discuss their line of Server, Desktop and Mobile CPUs. Topics will include:

- The advantages of 64 bit CPUS. Is there any advantage with 32 bit operating systems?
- Dual core/Dual processor technology
- Heat issues.
- Turion Laptop / mobile technology and how it compares with Centrino (heat, speed, battery life, wireless stability).
- Hyperthreading or hypertransport? Are they really hyper or just hype?
- How is memory accessed and how is speed optimized?
- Virus protection in the CPU? How does that work?
- Why choose AMD (in terms of benefits to the clients, not features)?
- When is the added cost of the more expensive processor type worth it?
