As a computer and software retailer in Portland from 1997–2002, Scott first learned about search by selling used software titles online, and building an on-site computer service business through Pay Per Click and organic search engine optimization.
In 2002, he began working with clients for internet marketing, and in 2004 obtained “certification” from one of the few education courses available at the time, from Search Engine Workshops.
After years of studying, reading, and actively performing search engine optimization, in 2006 Scott began speaking at some of the larger internet marketing conferences, and helped found SEMpdx, a local non profit educational organization for the search industry.
