Who determines an "authoritative source"?

Right now the most widely accepted way to measure another Web sites "authority" is by using the Google toolbar.

Having a higher "Google PR rating" means the value of an inbound link from that particular page will "pass on" some of that authority to you. The same can be said about Alexa rankings.

Having a high page rank is something that can be temporarily faked too,  and many people have been taken advantage of, by paying for an inbound link, only to have the value disappear.  Three months later when Google updates their page rank.

By building permanent inbound links, on relevant websites with higher Google PR), you are actually establishing a permanent long term strategy for success on the internet.
